Alphabet Slides in Google Classroom

Alphabet Slides

Last assignment of the year! Finish this by Friday, June 5th. The final week of school is make-up week. Turn in any unfinished assignment for a grade and credit!

In this assignment, you are to make 4 consecutive pages of a children's alphabet book in Google Slides (That means 4 letters in a row. A, B, C, D or L, M, N, O etc.). Remember the principles of design that we learned earlier in the year. Use the same font and position on every page. Use different background colors for each page, but colors that go together. Choose images that are the same style (for example, NOT one photo, one cartoon, one realistic drawing). Use contrast in the letters and background, so it's easy to read.

Check out my sample and the inspiration piece attached to this assignment.

Share the slides with me or download as a pas and email it to me. [email protected]
If you have questions, please email me!

Due:

May 18-22 • COLOR WHEEL in Google Classroom

May 18-22 • COLOR WHEEL

COLOR is one of the basic elements of all art. As you come to understand how colors work together, fight each other, and create certain moods, you will become a better designer and a better artist. This applies to your designs, but also in the clothes you choose to wear, how you decorate your home, and even the makeup you put on.

1. Your assignment this week is to create a COLOR WHEEL using actual items that you can find in your home or yard (see examples A, B, C, & D).

2. Use objects that are mostly or completely all one color. Be creative!

3. Lay them out on a table or floor. Follow the pattern and order of the Actual Color Wheel I give you as well.

4. Take a photo of your wheel design and email it to me or place in the Google Classroom assignment.

Do This April 20-24 in Google Classroom

Do This April 20-24

Choose a subject that interests you. Something you really love to share and learn about. It could be your family, a sport you have played, an artist, actor, politician or athlete. You might choose a team or a historical group such as Trojans or the Nazis. It could be a leisure activity like skating, surfing, a style of dance or an art form. What interests YOU?

Create a Goole Slides Presentation on this subject. Here are the requirements:
1. Title Slide: Let your viewers know what this is going to be about
2. Use lots of images. A picture tells a thousand words.
3. After the Title Slide, you must have a least 5 other slides. But don’t stop at 5 just because that’s what I said. Use more slides if necessary to get your message across.
4. These slides must give us interesting and useful information about your subject. Organize your thoughts. Make sure you’re not leaving out an important item. Be clear and check your spelling, punctuation, capital letters, etc.
5. Use the Principles of Design. We learned these a few weeks ago. Go back in our Google Classroom and review if necessary. They are:
• Alignment - Things line up, aren’t placed randomly.
• Balance - Visually, one area is not heavier than another. Sides balance out, either symmetrical, or asymmetrical.
• Contrast - Big vs. little or Dark vs. light.
• Proximity/Unity - Things that go together are grouped next to each other.
• Repetition. Use the same things over and over. Use the same things over and over. Use the same things over and over. Same size boxes, same font throughout, same colors, etc.
• White Space - Don’t crowd every space in your slide. Leave some breathing room.

Take a look at the two samples I prepared for you. One is about my family (no making fun of me!) and one is on the Beatles. At the end, I give you examples of how I used the Principles of Design.

Due:

Principles of Design - REPETITION in Google Classroom

Principles of Design - REPETITION

It could be a concert, a car show, a soccer or surf competition, a charity run, a protest march, etc. Use the principle of repetition to bring unity and familiarity to your design. Also use at least one other principle of design in your layout (see the other Principles of Design Assignments in our Google Classroom).

Then, analyze your design. Describe how you used repetition and how it made your message more clear.
Describe the other principle(s) of design that you used and how it helped your design.

Due:

Principles of Design - PROXIMITY in Google Classroom

Principles of Design - PROXIMITY

Use the principle of UNITY & PROXIMITY to separate different ideas and put related thoughts together. Use Illustrator, Google Docs, Google Draw, Word, or any other computer program. Share it or email it to me ([email protected]). Remember, your headline should be big and easy to read. It's OK to mix up the order of the text if you need to.

WORK FOR APR. 13-17 in Google Classroom

WORK FOR APR. 13-17

Well, Spring break is over and we're back in school...well, kinda. I hope that you're all well and surviving this quarantine. Please stay healthy and be safe.

For Digital Design this week there are a couple of things for you to complete. These won't take you tons of time, but will give you full credits and a pretty good grade as well...if you put a little effort into this. So let's go!

1. MOST IMPORTANT! - Respond to the email I sent out. Just answer, "Yes, Mr. Petersen, I got this email.

2. Watch this video: 5 Tips on Becoming a Graphic Designer - Write down the 5 tips to becoming a good graphic designer that he shares. Share those 5 tips with me (Or email them to me).

3. Spend 15 minutes straight drawing. It doesn't matter if you are a good artist or not. Fill a page with random sketches and figures. Draw animals, people things or places...whatewver comes to your mind. Set a timer on your phone and DO NOT STOP until the timer goes off. This is a great activity to get your brain thinking creatively. I promise that after about 5 minutes you will start to run out of ideas. Push yourselves! Just draw the first thing that comes to your mind. Keep going. Then snap a photo and email it to me.

These 3 things are due by the end of the week, Friday, April 17.

If you still want to turn in previous assignments from our Google Classroom, such as the Principles of Design assignments, you can do that for additional credit...but do these 3 things first! I am also posting these assignments in our Google Classroom.

Please email anytime me if you have any questions. Remember, On Tuesday and Thursday from 11-noon I'm email live. Email me then for an immediate response.
