El Camino Intake Meetings
El Camino Real High School serves students who are 16 years of age or older and is designed to support students who are credit deficient and working toward graduation. Students have access to a variety of credit recovery opportunities and may earn credits at an accelerated pace when they fully participate in the programs and supports available to them. Course offerings are available to all interested students, allowing students to pursue academic and postsecondary goals aligned with their individual needs and interests. Because consistent attendance is one of the strongest predictors of success, regular participation in school is essential to maximizing progress and achieving graduation goals at El Camino.
Intake Process
- The student's comprehensive high school counselor discusses El Camino Real High School as a potential educational option with the student and parent/guardian.
- If the student and parent/guardian agree that El Camino may be an appropriate placement, the comprehensive high school counselor submits an Intake Referral Form.
- El Camino's counselor and administrator review the referral to determine whether the school can effectively meet the student's academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs.
- If appropriate, an intake meeting is scheduled with the student and parent/guardian to review the program and determine placement.
- Students remain enrolled at their comprehensive high school until the intake process is complete and official enrollment at El Camino has been finalized.
- Once enrollment is confirmed, El Camino staff coordinates with the comprehensive high school to facilitate a smooth transition and transfer of records.
Intake Meetings
- Intake meetings are conducted by the Counselors during the week prior to the start of each marking period.
- During the meeting, students and families review graduation requirements, attendance expectations, school policies, behavioral expectations, academic goals, and available support services.
- Course requests and an individualized graduation plan are discussed to ensure students are placed on an appropriate path toward earning credits and graduating.
- Students receive their class schedule on their first day of attendance at El Camino Real High School.
